Join us for the 28th annual University of Chicago Humanities Day - the longest running event of its kind in the city - featuring a free day of presentations, discussions, screenings, performances, and exhibitions. Art History Professor Richard Neer will present the Keynote address on a painting by the 17th century French artist Nicolas Poussin, entitled Blind Orion Seeking the Sun (1658), and its relation to early modern ideas of selfhood, skepticism and science. Explore the linguistic, literary, and cultural traditions for which the University of Chicago is renowned, with celebrated faculty who set the standards for humanistic inquiry. This one-day event, on the University of Chicago's Hyde Park campus is open to the public, with sessions starting at 9:30 a.m. and continuing through 4:00 p.m.
